Blood pressure

Well folks. Just looking for a little insight. I plan to try and keep longevity my largest concern. So I've been taking the steps to help achieve that.

I've been taking my bp measurements for awhile now but just yesterday picked up a glucose monitor as diabetes has appeared in my family from time to time.

Stats
27y/o
6'
195lbs
12-13% bf (an honest estimate)

This mornings measurements fasted

Blood glucose 4.4mmol
Blood pressure 129/89
Beats per minute 57 (I've brought it down over 5 months from 80ish on average)

Current daily supplementation

Omega 3 6g epa/dha
Citrus bergamot 1g
Potassium citrate 6-800mg
Coq 10 400mg
NAC 2g
Vit D3 3-4000ius
Inj. L carnitine 1g
Curcumin 1g
Coated Aspirin 81mg (before bed)
P5P 200mg
UGL cialis 10mg

Cardio 30 minutes 4x weekly. 20 minutes running at 11km/h. Then 10 minutes walking inclined at 6km/h

Water intake 3-4L
Currently eating at maintenance of 2900 cals a day

I don't get why I can't seem to be able to bring my bp down. It's sat consistently at 130-135 for months and I've been running this full supplementation for about 2 months.

Should I up the fish oil to 10g as I've seen suggested? I know 129 isn't crazy high but I'd like to see it lower. I do have an anxiety disorder that does influence it some.

Fish oil, coq10 and hawthorn made the biggest difference for me. Avoiding pre workout also helps

Worrying about the number is a big thing.. i always get white coat syndrome.. cant relax for that 30 secs it takes to test it
I can literally feel my pulse increase as well as my bp.

I was at the hospital yesterday to get some antibiotics and though I did have a coffee immediately beforehand my bp was 157/92 and bpm was 91.

I couldn't believe it, I told the doctor thats far from normal for me but he couldn't care less. They just want to pump you out.

I'll look into the Hawthorne. What are your dosages?

Even when I do it at home it goes way up. When that cuff tightens up, I panic..lol.. I cant seem to control it.

I was using a Now product with coq10 and hawthorn. I was taking 400mg of the hawthorn berry

Same here haha. And my juicy buddy always wants to check bp when he comes to see who's lower which of course spikes mine like 10 points

short answer - What I would do minus lengthy explanations but areas you may wish to look at closely.

Close examination of potassium/magnesium/calcium balance. Avoid citrates of any sort, they mess with iron/copper/ceruloplasmin

Fish oil - I'm pretty sure my response to FO doses as related to BP are atypical FYI. Have experimented in the past (posted here somewhere?) with controls as tight as possible, I take 12g per day. Actual EP/DHA content is what matters though, check labels as their is a huge variance. That dose keeps me one whole zone lower than without.

Bloodletting/donating but not without checking all other values to make sure it's appropriate.

Yep that's 6g of epa/dha. I will up my intake for the next month and see.

I donate every cycle just as a precaution and notice a significant improvement In energy and sense of well being.

I'll evaluate my citrate intake and adjust as well. Thanks

Cialis 5 mg a day will drop it 5 points likely.
Same with hysbiscus tea.
There are studies proving that hysbiscus tea is as effective as bp medication and should not be used with bp medication.
When I test, I test 3 times in a row.
I don’t worry about one test, my machine shows an average, that’s more what I worry about.
I dink too much coffee, so I never have a no coffee test, lol.

Mine also is high when I test elsewhere.

Very funny man we're almost identical in every way! Same age, weight (I may be a few % higher BF xD), almost identical supplementation, and same issue with blood pressure! I am also concerned, not so much for the cardiovascular implications, but the long term kidney effects, as it seems mostly everything about this lifestyle is terrible for kidney health.

Whats your creatinine / eGFR? I have recently been considering that perhaps running a mild ARB like telemisartan may be the solution to this. It has come to my attention that excess angiotensin II from androgens causes a lot of the cardio toxic effects like excess EPO, BP, LVH as well as a major contributor to CKD. I am beginning to think that preventative ARB use while running anything is the healthiest way to go about this, as blood pressure creeping up is quite normal amongst this crowd. I would imagine almost impossible to get one prescribed at 130-135/80 though.

I know for certain that if your hematocrit is high, your BP will be high, and the solution to this shouldn't be donating blood if you can stop it at the source.

I believe that higher blood pressure a lot of the time can be attributed to a slightly overactive sympathetic nervous system, which is why it feels like those with slightly more neuroticism (anxiety) are more effected. A reduction of angiotensin II is beneficial for this as well.

I have yet to experiment with this myself, still just trying to learn more. Do you find any difference with salt intake? I know if I do a cheat day my BP is fucked for 24 hours haha. Going to look into the hybiscus tea as well that is news to me.

I've got some reading to do in regards to some of the things you just said.

I've heard of using telmisartan before but haven't yet sourced any and need to do more reading. I do have some lysinopril but that is more if things start to get worse. So far they've stayed fairly level

I think Lysinopril would work for the array of cardiotoxic effects while handling blood pressure, any ARB should do, I just always say telemisartan because it is a slight PPARδ agonist as well similar to GW1516, though it was just recently taken off WADA watch list so this effect can't be as good as I'm making it out to be, but it was on there to begin with!

If you already have one you're a few steps ahead of me for sure, just looking into using it preemptively for cardio protectivity with gear, rather than exclusively as a response to high blood pressure like the rest of the population.

EDIT: Nice to meet someone my age looking at this in a similar way, kudos.

You seem a bit more well read into the cardio toxicity and preventative measures thsn myself but I'll definitely take some time this week to do some reading. Looking forward to seeing your contributions here man

A few other things to look at.

- sleep quality. Do you snore a lot or maybe have sleep apnea. A CPAP machine could help
- caffeine intake could great affect blood pressure. Possibly Reduce or remove caffeine from diet.
- sodium intake also can have an affect on BP.

The guys pretty much have you covered.
Ill add.

-L lysine has been know to be very effective.

- ubiquinol ( a better form of cq10) if your blood pressure is high go for 600 to 800mg.
Everyone else had good answers as well.

superbeast is correct hawthorn berry is a good one.

The most important hear , and I wanna make sure you dont overlook it is estrogen, excess water that you dont need is gonna sky rocket your bp. Control your estrogen it will lower you bp, faster then anything else.

Taking 10,000 mg of fish oil really helped lower mine. But also think my primo was eq.

I just tested mine at 144/72 ; all I take is 5G fish oils a day ; I’m thinking about asking my dr for a beta blocker because I’ve had problems in the past with it

Eating alot of celery also works.. its a bit different thou, I dont know if it fixes the problem, one of the ingredients, actually relaxes your arteries and that lowers your bp. But im not sure if that is temporary
