The goal is to crush your LDL,
since my late 20s my LDL was over 4 and my HDL under 2. Dr did a calcium score every five years until I was 50. It came back as zero each time. After 50 my score was reasonable, but it was 25 (out of 400). So starting to accumulate plaque in the widow maker artery
Dr. wanted to put me on statins and I said I wanted to go the natural route and try the Omega, red yeast, etc. She gave me one year. I did improve my LDL to 3.7 but that was not good enough
I took 5mg crestor (dosages range from 5mg to 40 or 50). After six months doctor retested my LDL, and it was under one. Since I got it under one, there’s been some really good research of the effectiveness of every other day so I now take 5 mg every other day and the LDL is still crushed.
I don’t love taking a statin, but I did hit the target my doctor told me it would.
Everybody has to do their own research. Get a calcium score, try everything else first and then, if necessary, consider medical intervention. All men in my family have heart attacks in their 50s… I’d like to avoid that. (yes most were healthy military man).
I do believe the main problem is inflammation in the body and most is caused by stress. I do believe when I retire in the next few years I’ll be able to come off the statin completely
