What is too dirty ?

Like many of you I have multiple memberships to different gyms

It sounds crazy or perhaps even stupid but certain gyms have better leg based machines or a favourite lat machine ( think Dorian Yates ) that I just love to train with thus multiple memberships

The vibe in one of the gyms I go to is very old school , chalk all you want, yell, scream, curse, there is really not even a change room just drop your pants and change to the side , however it is dirty, really fucking dirty, dead moths by the dumbbells dirty

90% of all upholstery is ripped and in the case of doing reverse pec deck flies you can smell the “ effort “ of past lifters who has been there before you

There is spray bottles but it’s watered down Mr Clean, perhaps not the best solution to use

I also have a SNAP membership for convenience it is literally 3 min from my home , it’s clean , very clean , almost too clean. It’s fucking cleaner then where I get my tattoos done

There is no vibe , and 100 tvs , but very good for a late night oh shit I didn’t get my workout in type thing

So my question to you :

Can a gym be too dirty ? Do you care ? Would you take dirt and vibe or clean and sterile ?

Thoughts ,,,,

Those sound like 2 complete extremes of the spectrum. I don’t think I’d like either. If they were my only options I’d probably go with the dirty gym and bring a towel to lay down on all the equipment I use.

I like old school, if they have some nautilus equipment.
But being 52, heavy dumbells are out of the question.
I'm trying to stay injury free, so I like more machines with age.
I still have the Yates, in me but the joints don't hold up.
Personally you can have two memberships.

I wouldn't go with either and would find a third option. If you can't keep your business clean, how can you ensure it will remain viable? I think it shows a certain level of disrespect to the members. TVs are a no-no in my gym world. TVs hadn't been invented when I started training.

I used to lift at a gym similar to the first one you described.. The types of things you listed never bothered me at all, but what did bother me was:
-lack of members.. I need people around me moving in order to feel motivated,
-lack of women... I'm married, so its not like that.. but having women around helps the atmosphere.
-lack of management.. The owner was NEVER around.. No staff at all.. like never... So members behaved as they saw fit.. It was ok for about 80% of the memebers, but there was some fucking odd guys there and a few douche bags.. every now and then you'd get a bunch of younger kids lifting togehter and it was not good.. I'm shocked no sserious injuries happened... the lack of any staff whatso ever is why not many ppl went to this gym and why zero women went to it.
-when stuff broke, it took forever for it to be fixed.. I'm fine with torn bench padding etc, but when a cable snapped or bearing went, that shit just never got fixed within 6 months.

Lastly... the bathrooms were fucking gross.. smelled like old piss because the owner refused to put in automatic flushing urinals.. guys never flushed them so the piss just sat and fermented and got pissed on by the next person etc.. And sometimes the toilet would be clogged with shit for days..

I'm now lifting in the community multiplex.. hockey rinks, school gyms, weight lifting room, dance rooms, etc.. it's a family facility, but they got good equeipment and its super clean and for the most part the members are good (and there is lots of them).. I can pile weight on to deadlift and drop it and no one cares.. they have an actualy lifting platform so the noise aint bad.

Althguh my new gym doesn't have half the equiepment the other dirty when I went to did, I can still hit everythig the way I want to, just need to be a bit more creative.

I'd skip the dirty one, if you end up with ring worm or staph infection you won't be sticking to any routine, especially
on constant antibiotics.

Gym I go to isn’t the cleanest but not that bad. Pretty good vibe but I train early in the am so not many people there.

I feel like if it was too dirty and shit was broken I’d get pissed off and rage quit my membership.

50 mg of deca a week is a wonder dose for the old joints.

I'll stick with my garage gym
Me too. I take the leaf blower and blow the dust and dirt out the front door once a week when I cut the lawn.
In the winter I use the central vac hose for the vehicles and vac up the cob webs and spiders. I figure if they are smart enough to figure out how to crawl back out the exhaust vent, they are allowed to live, lol.

This is so familiar to my weekly it's scary

Could you run that year round or?
Not sure, but I ran it for 3 months with zero issues a couple years ago.
I was 51 and my joints were just aching in the fall when the temperature changed, and after about 3 weeks I had enough and tried the deca at low dose to see what would happen.

Worked great. The aches went away, I didn't get deca dick or any other issues, only "side" was the relief in my joints.

I stopped after 3 months well, just because and the joint pain didn't come back. Well not until this year, so I started taking 50 mg of deca a week again last week. Getting older sucks.
