How much semen should I ejaculate? Is my semen normal?

We’re all so weirdly obsessed with our members as a species, so it’ll strike us as worrying is we think something is slightly off, strange or just plain weird. You’ve probably ejaculated a thousand times without a second thought, but if you’re noticing very little ejaculate as of recent - it might be a sign of a more serious health issue.

As with every issue, there’s no harm bringing up to your GP who will be more than happy to help with any concerns and advise you with issues - it’s always better to be safe rather than sorry - even if it does mean chatting about something a little uncomfortable from time to time.

How much is not enough?

Producing less than a third of a teaspoon may be a sign of low testosterone, diabetes or a few various other health issues. If you think that it could be you - it might be time to get checked out by a professional. Luckily most things can be treated, so you shouldn’t be worrying and there’s a whole host of home remedies that you can give a go to if you think you’re suffering.

What to do if you think you’re producing less?

Of course getting checked is the first and most encouraged step - make an appointment with a urologist to get checked for low testosterone, erectile dysfunction and various other tests to get to the root of the problem. This may include family history checks to see any other red flags that may be a cause of issue.

There is however a few other bits and pieces that you can do to make sure you’re in the best place possible to give you a fighting chance of increasing the volume of semen.

Hydration levels are directly linked to the volume produced, if you think you’re not drinking enough (a lot of us aren’t) then it might be something to consider. Make an effort to stay hydrated through the day and you’ll be in with a higher volume of semen.

Losing weight, lifting weights, running and cutting down on alcohol and poor eating habits will also put you in the right direction with the unhealthy habits affecting more than just your stomach. You’ll be feeling better in general and with a healthier spurt, that’s the icing on the cake (pardon the crude image).

The takeaway

The takeaway is simple. If you think that there’s a problem - it’s best to get it checked out - nobody knows your body quite like you and your concern is likely a sign to be trusted. It’s nothing to worry about and should be easily resolved so that you can return to the healthy fountain that you remember.

If you’re not already, it’s a good idea to focus on hydration, cutting down on alcohol, a good, healthy and balanced diet and to avoid smoking. But the best thing to do is to keep an eye on it and check out other symptoms.
