Property tax, even if you own your home outright you still need to pay that. If they jack it way up kiss it all goodbye. On a 24k a year bag of peanuts with a 10k+ property tax good luck.
True enough, but property tax is municipal, I think if the federal government started to jack it, people would freak.
Same issue for renters, no one could afford rent.
Shit my property tax is 5000 already,
Buddy of mine on the lake pays $12,000.
Mind you he owns a successful car dealership and makes more money than me, lol, I’d shit paying that.

Ok, now if they took the amount that we got from the basic income in property tax, then even the poor would pay it thru rent, then there would be no net difference to now, except that the government was recycling money, lol.
Oh I know they would figure out a way to get extra. They always do.

This won’t be municipal property tax. This will be like capital gains but paid yearly on the increase in the value of your home.

So if paid down $10k of your mortgage and the value of your property went up $10k the you would pay equity tax on that $20k.

That will still increase rent to the point that people would be homeless.
Landlords would have to pass on the cost,
I bet there would be outrage if it was pointed out.
I know Kenny would fight it, but Ford would likely think it’s a good idea, lol.

Not with the guaranteed income to back them up. Plus landlords will not likely be allowed to evict..

This is what they did in Venezuela it’s an attack on the rich but not the extremely wealthy.

Well there isn’t a single thing I can do about it, if they want to do it.
Lockdowns are a good example of that. We have 40 cases in Kingston, no one in hospital and are locked down for a month.

Yes there is. Vote against this commie. 😊
Of course ill do that. And I point out how his agenda may damage someone’s future economically, but I try not to look at too much or I get too angry.
Thing is I’m not unique, almost everyone I know has similar values to me, or close enough that they don’t really want what’s going on either, but the government stopped working for the majority along time ago.
They lie to get in, then do whatever they can to stay in power thru bribes and special interest groups.

Do what I did
Leave the fucking country

I can’t leave the country, I have a child to think about. Even with restricted freedoms, Canada still has more opportunity then 3 rd world countries. Plus these kids are growing up in this. To them it’s normal (yes it’s sad). It’s like when a new protocol gets brought into work, the old timers hate it, it the rookies have no issues because they don’t know any different.
You know my wife is bored, but the lockdowns are making me really, really good money.
The more people get scared, the more they want to shop at a smaller shop.
Restaurants are closed, so they want pre prepared food that is good.
I just hope once it’s all over I can keep these sales. We have maxed out the shop, my dollar per square foot is better than Walmart. I am working on ways to increase my production in my shop right now. I need a way to increase my smokehouse capacity, 900 lbs a day is not enough.
Honestly I didn’t do much before, so other than I can’t walk into homedepot, or go tanning, my life didn’t change.

Now don’t get me wrong, I’m not happy about it. But nothing I can do about it.

and you believe a article that disguises itself as a national post article?
Maybe, but they have been redistributing wealth since 2015. The middle class was increased by removing money from the middle/upper middle class and redistributing it to people just below.

But now the carbon taxes don’t redistribute wealth in the same way. Unless they are going to use it for the universal benefit?

If we became socialist, they will take our properties as there will be no tax base any longer. They will take the businesses and take profits from these to distribute and possibly charge you rent to live in the house or deduct from your equalization payment.
I don't see it happening, but who the heck knows lots to watch out for as far as signs etc right now. I do not disbelieve, nor believe everything. Just listen and watch and be aware...
It will be a different idea they run with, but the article here is a bit shady as the article is not national post, it is a name similar, and phony, so it is not a good sign, or is it a good sign from an independent source...One never knows from one article unfortunately.

Prove what? Give you a tax return so you can see I pay more in tax now than pre Trudeau?
He removed a child tax credit that cost me $300 alone, and it wasn’t made up with his other child benefit, that is now only $35 or something silly like that.

He increased the child credit that he removed from me to lower income earners. I know one staff member who was increased the same year by $500. That guy only liked to work 30 hour weeks max.

This is old news, like 2016 stuff, common knowledge. Easily googlable.

I’m not sure where in this thread I said he was staging a socialist coup.
I am correct that he is redistributing wealth.
Truthfully I don’t think socialism is on his mind, more of a dictatorship maybe.
He loves the effiency of a dictatorship, talked about it numerous times.
Mind you we are pretty much there already, and have been with all parties. This is not new.

I’ll tell you why I’m not impressed with Trudeau. Because he lies too much. I know they all lie, but his whole thing was he was going to be more transparent, better than previous politicians.
How many of his first promises has he kept? How many like election reform has he not done? Remember he wasn’t going to be Harper, never prorogue parliament, and so on.
He’s exactly the same.

And I do not mind paying taxes. Most businesses like mine hide their profits under their matress, I pay my taxes.
But watching my taxes increase exponetionslky, while I’m not seeing services increase for all Canadians (other than CERB, which I have no issues with, it’s kept the economy propped up for now, all parties would have had to do something, I could argue it could have been rolled out better, but hindsight is 20/20), but the million and billions handed out of our country while we still have millions that could have used it. And at least some of the money I paid in tax would have made it back to me in sales in my store, but when billions are funneled out, it is gone. It wasn’t even given out as tied aid. And now COVID has come and they are printing money, because nothing was kept back just in case.

So no, socialism is the last thing I’m worried about. We are already socialist, and will slowly become more than way with every party, that isn’t my concern.
