Wife and I started taking it today.. Wife picked up dehydrate lion's mane from a farmers market because she read about it.. I did some reading and decided I'd try it as well.

Anyone try it? Dosing is hard to find concrete info for.. we settled on 1 gram a day to try it.

Anyone got a cheaper source for it? Farmer's market price is so high that I'm kind of embarassed my wife paid that much for it lol..

Morning @animal-inside - yes, but I used in a mushroom combination for colds/flue/take a few times a year. Mushrooms (medicinal) have powerful effects on your health. It had Reishi, Maitake, Shitake, Lion's mane and turkey tail (Coriolus versicolor). Did I feel anything - nope but I didn't need antibiotics for the bacterial infection I got in my chest. I also used Olive leaf extract.
Regardless, they are well known and have a lot of science behind them if you go searching. Hope it helps you and the better half. I can't recall the brand or dosages but if I had more time, I could go to the supplement store and find it.
The local acupuncturist also brings in a combo from Asia. I have not tried it but he 'prescribes' as he was trained in Asia.

one of the mods suggested the mushrooms vit d and olive lead.if terrible low amounts of collodil silver.worked well.

If it's meant to be tasty, and they are when fresh, then the higher price compared to powdered form is justified.

Growing kits are easy to come across. I only threw mine away because it was winter when I received it as a gift and couldn't grow shrooms indoors for long.

Source of powder, china? Most pills are made with Chinese powder anyhow. I once ordered from https://www.qualitymushroom.com/

There is some data on many mushrooms including lion's mane causing libido issues for some people, and switching the type of extraction method worked for some.

ya if we find them to help then I was going to order a growing kit next spring.

lion's Mane is delicate and can easily be grown with spores and choir of choice. They absolutely produce tons!! There are a ton of sites out there for both spores and choir bags with spores already inoculated. The majority of mushrooms out there are easy to produce by humans and delicious.

There are some out there that have a propane stove in their garage and take horse or cow crap after they have been heavily fed straw, bake it to sterilize it then place it in bags, inoculate the bags and keep them at about 80deg F for around a month then they open them up placing the contents on sterilized straw/hay with some water tented with a tarp. They get A LOT

I used brown rice that I ground then mixed it with vermiculite and water, placed in sterilized half pint mason jars, poked a hole in the lid and inoculated the jar placing tape over the hole after I put the needle with water/spores (few drops only). I then took two large plastic totes, identical, filled one 1/4 full then placed an aquarium water heater in it. Then took the second tote and placed it on top followed by the mason jars and some blankets. Closed that container and waited 3wks. The jars were white with mycelium so I take another plastic tote and fill it 1/10th with wet vermiculite then open up the mason jars and place what are now called "cakes" onto the wet vermiculite with space between them. I drill a dozen 1/4in holes in the top of the container and put on the lid. In a few days there will be little "pins" on the cakes and get ready for mushies!!

Super cheap to do and lots of fun

Hey, very cool.

I've grown a lot of lions mane and oysters....well, all kinds of freaky mushrooms actually, including tons of the fun ones.

I don't have much to add to the Lion's mane health benefits part, as I just grew and ate them without looking into that, but here's some pics of Lion's mane growing on the fruiting blocks and some blue and white oysters from my greenhouse setup. These a from a couple of years ago though, I haven't done much mycology work recently.

Sorry for the blurry Lion's mane pic, it's all I could find on this laptop.

those 3rd and 4th pics have a wild and weird look to them, edges so sharp, looks kind of animated. Funky camera or lighting setup? IDK shit about photography...

Just my phone at the time, probably the Galaxy 9 I think...that pic is from June 2021. It is a cool pic, very sleek looking effect on those oysters, not sure why, just a cool result. Blue oysters look kind of other-worldly for some reason. . I don't know shit about photography either, but here's another from the same batch where you can see some gold oysters as well on the upper shelf.
Mycology is pretty interesting. I was making my own live cultures using tissue samples with agar and petri dishes, working in a still air glove box, etc. Everything is super sterile. I have all kinds of interesting lab gear as a result that will be put to good use shortly in a more um.....anabolic manner. ;)

Pretty wild, I have had a quick scratch of the subject and considered giving home grown a shot, may reassert now. Shit I didn't even know Lions Mane looked like that, it's crazy too.

When i decide to try to grow some I might be getting in touch lol

Just an update... I took 1/2 teaspoon every morning up until a week ago now I'm taking 1 teaspoon in the morning..

I don't notice any cognitive benefits per say.. I'll explain more below.. I do not notice any energy benefits.

I do notice I'm not as quick to anger. I am very quick to become frustrated and angry at home with the wife. I've been working on it and we've got our stresses.. But I can honestly say I'm not as quick to anger and when I'm frustrated I am able to think more clearly which helps me not have my frustrations turn to anger.

I don't know if its the lions mane or not, but my bowels are definitely off. My vacation ended around sept 1st and usually it takes me a week to get my bowels back into routine because in the summer I can shit, eat and drink water whenever I feel like. At work I can't.. I don't work shit either..

Anyways it's sept 18th and I my bowels haven't settled. I always take 2 teaspoons of metamucil a day (1am and 1 pm) so having messed up bowels is very rare for me.

It sort of feels like constripation/not being able to completely empty bowels... hopefully it does away.

After a few months I'll probably stop lions mane and see if it was actually helping my anger. I can't see anything else in my life being the reason why I'm dealing with it better though.
