How much is too much protein powder and whats the risk?

I also agree with mixing up protein sources for both food and protein powders. Too many guys are eating chicken breasts 3-5x per day which is stupid in my opinion. Get in beef, chicken, fish, bison, goat, lamb, eggs, greek yogurt, beans etc. For the proteins I like to mix up the dairy whey and casein along with egg whites and even mix in some pea protein with those sources as well

I personally need a lot of protein and notice when i cut back. Currently around 265-270, and i take in at least 375 g per day of protein, lower carbs right at the moment and fairly high fats. I do not grow much when lower protein intake. I can gain fat if i want, but muscle growth is in need of extra protein. I am a bit larger than most folks, and i am in my 50's and i have noticed my protein requirements have gone up, and my carb requirements have gone down to stay or gain.
I can and do still gain quite a bit when i am in that phase, BUT protein needs to be high.
Never ever have i taken less than 1.5 g per lean lb, not my weight. If i am 15%-20% bf i factor that in, normally i am 15% or less, but i do fluff up once a year or 18 months.

So many thoughts on this, i have tried myself to go lower protein etc, around 25 g per meal, we can digest a lot more than that for protein.
I never found 3 people that all agree on this, but as we all say and know, we are different animals and have different things that make a difference. Protein is the biggest differentiator in my world for muscle quality and overall good health and muscle looks. Carbs come and go, Fats are required always.
Let us know how it goes as you experiment.
Im the same. I ate close to 400 for 10+ years and it worked well. The last couple years i dropped it down to 250ish and i can tell. Not worried cause im actually trying to get down to 200 and stay there for good.
I know there are tons of people that do not need more then 1gr/lb but im not one of them. Im also not a guy that could eat alot of carbs

I’m eating around 300gms in real food right now. But to be honest, last night was a 16 oz ribeye so I injest a lot in one sitting. I take a digestive enzyme when I eat that much meat at one time. Makes digestion easier. Its tough to eat 120 grams at once, lol.

like @ironwill and @storman I always realized my best results with a rather high daily intake, but that's me not necessarily anyone else. Sometimes it's hard to tell what portions of any system are responsible for what results. For one example maybe in my case it's because I have tended to train heavier and lower reps during those same times when protein intake is high.

@Jerbear IMO one very important thing to take advantage of is understanding the role a minimum peak of Leucine content has in muscle protein synthesis. I've written about it here before I believe but the very basic thing is that below a certain threshold mps is not initiated regardless of how much amino acid mix you have floating around inside you. So while having sufficient "building blocks" on hand by dribbling in a constant (low) supply all day does considerably less for you than hitting those peak leucine notes.

My suggestion would be to guide your dose of the drinks or any meal would be to use those minimums as you bottom target. Please double check for yourself but I believe it's 3.5g for a man but a bit higher for over 35 or so year olds. I know I target 5 grams for myself here in my 5th decade. Layne Norton was involved in some studies around this.

Thank you I'll look into that for sure

Yea I struggle if I over drink milk but I find lactose free fairlife works good. Funny @Sorbate we actually have a lot in common.
We seem to.
i am going to pick up some fairlife milk today to drink with my eggs in the morning. I just find it extremely tough to gag down 5 eggs first thing. So I thought I’d cheat and do 3 and 400ml of milk. I could do with the extra carbs and fat anyways.

I switched to Organic milk, I know many organic things are a bit BS, but milk organic tastes much, much different and zero gut issues for myself.. Seems to digest great.
I should try it. What I like about fairlife too though is it has 14g of protein/1 cup

I went to buy some today. Grocery store was packed, so I’m waiting in line like 30 min, get to the front, the cashier says, my shift is over I’m closed. I wasn’t going to the back of another line for 30 min, so I left my milk there and said, have a great night. I’m not waiting another 30 min.
I asked my wife to pick some up for me tommorow.

I’ve drank normal milk now for a couple days and no doubled over farting so I’m gtg. Thank god, it’s so much easier to drink calories I’ve you are in a pinch.

BTW, do yourself a favor if digestion issues, move away from artificial sweeteners like aspartame and all that shit, so hard on the gut. I ONLY use non sweetened natural protein powders and ones with stevia. I will add in my own vanilla real extract when i need it for flavors'. BUT THE SWEETENERS kill the gut, in a big way...

I tried organic milk for a while but still didnt sit right. I love Fairlife and drink it everyday.
I used to read quite a bit about raw milk years ago but never been able to get any to try.

Raw milk was always a staple, since i moved recently, i lost my contact, so i reverted to organic 3% and all good, regular milk buggers me up.
It is illegal to sell Raw milk, a long time ago, i leased a cow at my buddys dairy farm, then i was able to get raw milk any time. They have quotas and are pretty strict regulations.
I have same buddy that i was getting from as he was able to drink his own.
Came in 1 gallon glass containers, and the cream is unreal, he had grass fed milkers. I miss it, but grab anytime i am back in AB near my place there.
Any other milk takes a long time to adjust to the taste once you have whole raw milk.
