After 2 trips to the grocery store (forgot bbq sauce after veggie run, my meat comes from a butcher) 12 chicken breast 8 butterflied chicken breasts 4 cups of rice and 2 bags of frozen veggies and 2 1/2 hours later I finally finished my first real meal prep, I usually cook my food daily but after seeing how little time and effort it really took on a Sunday evening I think I will be doing this from now on.

So was that the weeks worth of meals? Like you cooked Sunday enough till sat. Does the chicken stay ok in the fridge that long or do you freeze some? What kind of sauces do you use on the chicken? I'm asking because I just started up with a food coach to bulk up some and curious about the whole cooking on sat or Sunday for the week. I see your post was from January. Did you end up trying this new routine out?
How did you like it ? Does it end up saving time in the long run ?
Thanks

I'm not the original poster (obviously) but if you cook for the whole week, you're only 'supposed to' leave 3-4 days max worth of meat in the fridge and freeze the remainder or the risk of food poisoning increases. I've done 5-6 days before and although I didn't get sick, it seemed kinda off and I felt like I was playing with fire letting it sit that long lol. It absolutely does save time though if you bulk prep, ie. if you bake your chicken it really isn't gonna take much longer to do 7 days worth than it would to cook 2-3 days worth, but if you only cook 2-3 days at a time you're gonna have to prepare, spend the 30-60 minutes to cook, and clean all the dishes multiple times per week which takes more time than doing it all in one go. When I personally meal prep though I don't bulk cook rice, I use a rice cooker and set it to be ready in the morning everyday because fresh rice tastes way better imo. Learnt that tip from Chris Tuttle lol

Does rice freeze okay or does it dry the F out. Simple enough to make every few days but freezing would be convenient

Ya okay . That s what I'm starting to think . If I'm preping everyday there's the dishes and mess . So ya im definitely gonna give the week prep a try for sure . My meal 3 and 4 are chicken rice and broccoli or green beans . I got to find some different sauces or different way of cooking the chicken just to mix up the flavor a little here and there. Does anyone have any good ideas for this ?
