Just banned a member for conducting business on my forum without my permission

I just banned Huggybearz for conducting business on my forum without my permission
I can read pm's. I do not bother with them much but every once in a while I take a look to see if someone is doing business on my forum
in this case I see he messaged many of you guys and only one of you came forward to tell me he was doing this
that is disappointing to me .

Because one of the rules here is to

9. Report posts that need to be reported.
This means messages that are spam, advertisements, violations of these rules and problematic harassment posts. There is a report link (image of a triangle) at the bottom left of every post.

and another rule is

10. Not to spam other forum members via PM or emails.
To do so will result in an immediate ban and a report will be made to spammers' ISP's as well as to Spamcop. Be warned! THIS INCLUDES CONDUCTING BUSINESS OVER PM.

I didn’t know about this. He hadn’t messaged me at all. This is a great place but members need to remember it’s a privilege to be here.

I didn't get messaged either.

I have gotten messages from new members asking for sources and such, but I tell them that its not appropriate and if they keep it up and message the wrong person they will get banned. That has fixed it before in the past.

Pretty serious stuff. Last ban I remember was Bard on the old site. Guess he guessed who to leave alone. No message to me either. I don't get that sort of thing since the new site came about actually. Glad you rooted him out.

Neither, perhaps he was going for more of the newer folks?
I'll admit I did drop the ball with that "Someguy" here. I figured someone would deal with it eventually.
That was my fault, bystander effect.
Going forward I will be more diligent and help uphold the integrity of the site as a whole.

To be fair, I assumed it was cleared by you as a trusted member. I didn't really notice he didn't say "approved by ...".

I'll pay better attention next time. Didn't accept the offer, but I did get the pm.

I saw that he had sought permission to unload some of his reta in the trade forum. That seemed appropriate.

I like Huggy and this is unfortunate.

He had messaged many members over several months

Replying to a message is okay
Sending messaged inviting members to email him to help them is spamming members and breaking the rules

I was just about to thank you for allowing this sort of thing. It certainly helped me at times.

I appreciate this community so much. It’s a place that sets me straight when I’m going through stressful and unhealthy phases.

“Hey buddy, been following you since your comeback . I hope you’re killing it still . Send me a email we can chat offline.”

I replied i was going to work and I’d message him later but never followed up on it. If I would of known it was something fishy I’d have told ya boss

Some messages where like that. In some he discussed products he wanted to sell

I apologize. I was one who recieved a dm and I nothing came of it but I will be sure to let the boss know if this comes up again. I did think he had some sort of permission to be asking people based on a previous buy/sell post but I have been busy. still no excuse. I apologize

Yeah I saw this then when I got the DM I didn’t know it was breaking rules but now that’s clarified I’ll be sure to let the boss know if I see anything like this again

I know he was selective as to who he messaged

I thing many members getting his pm did not realize what he was doing was breaking the rules
