UFC 264 - McGregor vs Poirier 3

Well boys, another good card this weekend.

For the main event, I'm going with Conor, but there's a good chance I could be wrong. Conor's not the same man he was pre-Mayweather fight. I'm basing my decision on the fact that I feel his ego will drive him to show better prepared than before. However, I tend to agree with what Khabib said - if it ends in the 1st, Conor wins. If it makes it to the 2nd, its Poirier's fight.

I'm picking Wonderboy over Burns.

I'm picking Hardy over Tuivasa.

I'm going with O'Malley in his fight - though I know nothing about his opponent, Moutinho.

A fight I'm interested in is the Ryan Hall - Ilia Toupiria fight. Hall's BJJ is sick, and he's one of the most avoided fighters in the UFC. He's only been able to get 3 guys to fight him since he won the Ultimate Fighter 6 years ago. But the guy he's facing is a young, hungry, undefeated fighter.

I got Peireira over Niko Price. Price looked pretty unimpressive in his last fight against an old, washed-up Cowboy Cerrone.

I got Maia over Jessica Eye.

I'd like to see Condit get the W over Griffin -but not not sure that he will. Condit hasn't been the same since his fight with Lawler. Although the same can be said about a few fighters Lawler's faced (Johnny Hendricks, Rory MacDonald, ... )

Whose got who in this one?

Going to have to disagree with your picks this time

Poirier by ko round two
Burns by decision… he will wrestle
Tuivasa by tko round 2 or 3. Hardy got no gas
O’Malley but man I don’t like his style

I got Poirier if it goes into the 2nd - especially if it hits the 3rd.

With the Burns fight, I'm not too sure he'll be able to get Wonderboy down. If he does, then his BJJ will def take over. But Wonderboy's always had good takedown defense, and very slippery footwork and distance management. This one could be interesting.

I'm surprised you don't have a pick for the Ryan Hall fight.

Luv Hall’s jiu jitsu and he is a very intelligent guy. I just don’t know much about Topuria.

Also big fan of Condit, but have no idea what he got left

Poirier - Connor's only chance is a KO in the 1st, after that Poirier puts pressure on Connor and he gasses and gets finished
Wonderboy - slick striking, great movement, take down defense is solid
Tuivasa - Hardy will gas early
O'Malley - don't know too much about his opponent, just think O'Malley is very talented (unless his ankle taps out again)
Hall - odds are Toupiria gets leg locked by a guy who looks like an accountant - love Hall
Peireira - Price looked like crap against Cerrone
Maia - this will be a hump fest on the ground - both should just give up as neither is beating Valentina anytime soon
Griffin - Condit is done

Some good picks there. I agree with your thoughts on Wonderboy and Hall. And I agree, Price didn't look too great against and over-the-hill Cerrone. I'm hoping Condit has one good fight left in him, then he can hang up his gloves - but thats probably not the case

It'd be nice to see Condit go out with a bang, and then hopefully retire. Whether that actually happens, we'll see ...

I hate seeing these guys fight way past their prime. Its not good for their legacies, but more importantly, its not good for their brain health. I'd like to see them enjoy their retirement.

I want to say McGregor because he probably knows and has been told that this could be his last chance at going mainstream again after all his loses, but that’s the same reason I don’t think he will win if that makes sense.

hell of a card though, excited to watch with friends and see how it pans out 👍

I dont know who this O'Malley is but at a 1.09 favorite im guessing hs pretty damn good or his opponent completely sucks.

O'Malley is a young fighter with a lot of hype behind him right now. He was originally supposed to be fighting someone else, but that opponent pulled out due to injury.

So they got a last minute replacement, bringing in someone from another smaller organization whose never fought in the UFC. I know nothing about this new replacement - he could be good, or he could suck. Based on the odds, he's probably sucks :sneaky:

I think Moutinho's chin stole the show tonight in his fight with O'Malley. ;)

Terrible decision by Herb Dean to stop the fight. Its true that O'Malley put a few good combinations together, but Moutinho wasn't even hurt or wobbled, and with 27 seconds left i feel he deserved the right to finish the fight.

Disappointing result in the fight ! hate Mcgregor but still didnt want to see the guy break his leg
Totally agree with this. I had Dustin for the fight but still could never wish for something like that to happen. Respect to Conor for hiding the pain though, that break must have fucking hurt

Overall fun card - and i did go 4-0 on my picks!

Would like to see it play out but Dustin looked great and it was a fun round.

Hardy is a dumbass and inexperienced...if he kept his cool and did not lunge in he likely would have won that fight

Burns fought a smart fight...i hate when people say grappling is boring...the take downs he got were very complex and skilled and keeping a sweaty guy on the ground when he only wants to get up is hard. Plus people fail to mention that Thompson threw next to nothing on his feet...that was boring.

Moutinho is tough but that fight should have been stopped sooner. he was not going to win and the brain damage from the accumulation of shots is not good. He is a young fighter and those take longevity from you. Live to fight another day.

Chat soon folks

Connor has turned into Bizzaro Mystic Mac - says submissions don't count, goes for a guillotine, says Dustin will leave on a stretcher, he leaves on a stretcher. Kind of sad watching him beg for the loss to be listed as a referee stoppage and trying to trash talk someone while sitting there with a snapped leg. Feel bad for the leg, but don't feel bad that he lost.

Moutinho is tough, but his corner should have stopped it. I'm glad he got a $75K bonus, but at what cost? There was nothing that said this kid had a chance and he had zero defense - I've seen more head movement during 1 min on Pornhub.

That kid definitely has a chin. Never saw anyone keep moving forward like that.
He definitely got robbed with the stoppage. Not surprised, herb dean worst ref in the game. Obviously herb had omalley finishing that fight.

Not sure what to say about yhe main event. Why does everyone keep snapping shin bones

Somehow it's not bothering me too much. Probably cause I think he is a shit human being. Sucker punching older men who don't like your whisky, smashing phones and roughing up fans who take your pic, throwing dollies through glass widows with no regard for anyone's safety, bad mouthing other fighters wives and families, a litany of sexual assault accusations etc etc.
None of that stuff impresses me too much, fuck that guy.

I agree that technically the Moutinho fight could have been stopped sooner, but once he'd been through all of that, to stop it right at the end seemed kind of pointless. Let the guy get something for all the damage he took, heheheh.

I agree, Hardy could've had that fight if he hadn't been so quick to react - and careless with his defense while he did so.

I can truly appreciate good grappling and the ability to hold a guy down - especially later on in the fight when they're full of sweat. But I'm a bit sadististic :sneaky: ... I like to see some good damage being done when you've got the guy down there - not just holding him there to avoid having to strike with him. I don't feel Burns did too much of that this fight. But it was a well executed gameplan.

All in all, congratz on the good picks @Oldguyjiujitsu
