Thoughts on adding to my TRT

Hey everyone, First time poster here so I hope I am posting in the right place and this is allowed. I know similar questions have been asked before and I have read through those threads, but still had some questions so hope my post is okay.

I am currently on TRT for about 8 months, been at 200mg/week divided into 3 shots for about 4 months now, and am going for my first bloodwork at this dosage soon. For reference at 140mg/week pinned 20mg daily , my Total T was around 38nmol/l and my free T was 1000pmol/l. My doctor decided to up my dosage and added in 300ui of HCG a week. I've been feeling good and most my low T symptoms are gone but I've always had a chronic fatigue and so far Testosterone is the only medication that's helped but I am already pushing above the reference range and really can't increase my dosage. So I was thinking maybe there were other horomones I could optimize.

Originally I was interested in adding pregnenolone or DHEA into my protocol but my doctor said he doesn't do any of that, just TRT , HCG and HGH ( which i came back as naturally high so don't qualify for). From what I read it seems like by adding HCG there isn't much of a need to add pregnenolone or DHEA anyways, is my thoughts correct or would it still be worth testing my DHEA and pregnenolone?

I noticed in the US a lot of people add things like Anavar and Deca to their protocols. Are these solely for athletic performance? Do any people find they improve their quality of life?

On a side note because I know some people here cycle while on TRT or were past users. I was curious what people with experience thought about cycles while on TRT. Since I am now on TRT and my natural system is already shut down I've also thought about trying a cycle just for muscle and strength gains. The thing is i don't want to mess with my TRT as it is medically needed and it seems like it would be really easy to screw myself over by adding additional test and my levels coming back way too high. Is it realistic to do a cycle within 3 - 4 month blood work ? Would lets say upping my Test to 400mg a week for 8 of the 12 weeks really make a worth while impact while also not jeopardizing my TRT ? From what I understand unless I am doing blood every 6 months or annually I really shouldn't think about adding anything to my TRT but It never hurts to ask and learn what other people experienced or do.

I was originally thinking about adding something to my TRT test dosage but from what I read everyone says your first cycle should be just Test and around 400mg, it seems fairly safe because I know how my body reacts to Testosterone but it seems like its more risky with messing up my blood work. I have never touch an AAS or Sarm , and have only done TRT. I had left over testosterone cream from a previous doctor and my current doctor told me I can use it all up as a "boost" for fun so i was adding around 200mg-600mg of Testosterone cream daily (I have very poor absorption) on top of my 200mg injected IM for about a month and noticed no additional sides but also no change other than extremely high Libido. I am not an experienced lifter but have been lifting for about 2 years and since I am not natural anymore anyways It's something I started to consider since i'd imagine being on TRT would make it easier for me to retain the majority of the gains I'd make while also negating the biggest potential side effect ( a poor recovery of your natural system).

I appreciate anyone with experience giving some honest feedback. For both ways to improve my protocol , if anyone found any thing added to TRT improved energy and if the possibility of a cycle while on TRT is actually worth it or reasonable.

your doctor sounds like a fun guy... What medical professional tells someone to use extra medication as a "fun boost" - lol what a quack.

That aside... I doubt the cream would do anything worthwhile. If you want a "fun boost" just run a few months at 400mg and then come down before bloodwork.

I'm no AAS expert - but recently went from normal TRT to 300mg test / 300mg Primo with very good results over 3 months. Nor back to TRT doses for 2 months before next blood work.

To be fair a different doctor had me on the cream perviously so i had like 5 months worth i had paid out of pocket for so i asked if i could use it to get my moneys worth lol i think because 200mg of cream brought me to around 9nmol/l on previous tests he was just humouring my idea knowing it’s impact was insignificant.

Was that your first cycle ? I’m assuming it would be better for me to try a higher Test dosage before adding any other compounds right? My biggest worry is messing up my blood work. What made you add primo?

I appreciate the response man! I want to do my due diligence before messing with my TRT

Not sure what to say - something doesn't add up. Not calling you a liar so don't take it that way but WTF? Is this a GP, Endo, or a clinic for TRT?

You were on a dosage that put you above the normal total and free test range and your doctor wanted to increase your dosage? Why?

Your doctor told you take the cream as a boost when you are already out of normal range - on the high side? I know a lot of docs and don't know any that would be willing to suggest you essentially cycle with cream. Many will be decent enough to monitor you if they know you cycle but won't jeopardize their license giving advice how to do it.

Yes, in the US some doctors do prescribe other compounds to the TRT protocol. All that being said, if you are on TRT prescribed from a doctor, don't mess up your prescription but as I write this I realize it makes no sense. If you come in high - who gives a shit, your doctor told you take more as a boost - right?

If you wanted to run a 'cycle' and not mess up your test script, use a short ester like prop and try it for a few months but stop at least a month before your bloods. If I was you, I would run tests of my own if you are going down that road and pay for your own private testing to make sure you don't mess up your relationship with your doctor. I wouldn't add in other compounds like DHT drugs because your free test will go through the roof and I have no idea how long it will take for it to come back down. Controlling total test and free test with higher doses of testosterone is easily sorted out with your own blood work.

You mention, "read it seems like by adding HCG there isn't much of a need to add pregnenolone or DHEA anyways, is my thoughts correct or would it still be worth testing my DHEA and pregnenolone?"
Would you mind attaching that literature as I would like to read it as that is not my understanding.

Sorry I realize it wasn’t in my original reply , i go to a clinic , and it was clinic receptionist who said go ahead , not the doctor himself. I was under the assumption when i asked the person I talked to he had asked the doctor but it sounds like based on your replies he just told me i could use it himself because he knew it would clear my system before bloodwork. And they didn’t suggest it or give advice , he told me there wouldn’t be an issue with them if i did it. I should have worded it better , he didn’t care that i used it up, as opposed to told me i could . And again reading your replies i am 100% sure the clinic receptionist did not talk to the doctor now lol The intention wasn’t a cycle just to use what i had paid for.

But based on your reply it seems like unless i’m doing bloodwork every 6 months it’s not really realistic so i’ll push the idea of a cycle off for now . Its not worth risking my relationship with my doctor or my prescription. Can you just pay privately for blood work at any draw centre ? Do you mind if i ask how much it costs you (the blood work) ?

And off of another post on this form and just what i had read online indicated by taking HCG my body will continue to produce Pregnenolone.

This is what i am referring to. I wondered if HCG would really get my levels back to normal or if its still worth getting it tested.

I really appreciate the response i think my thought of trying a cycle right now was a little to thoughtless.

And i hope that clears things up!

I'm not sure where you get your blood work done but you could ask them if you can pay privately to order more frequently. Each province is different. I used to use Letsgetchecked but they stopped servicing Canada. Many people use a Naturopath because you can order whatever tests you want. Every place is different regarding price and it can get costly if to run a hormone panel and liver/kidney/lipids. The main point behind a private blood test is the private adjective. Make sure the blood results don't end up in your permanent medical chart if you don't want it there.
I have a very good relationship with my doctor and she will order any test I request or lets me check off the requisition form with the tests I want.
I am limited in my options in this Province but can drive to ever few months and pay for blood tests in another Province near by. When I was adding in other compounds to my TRT, I knew how long it took for my hormone levels to normalize - I ran my own tests paying privately.

Thanks for the reply - take care.

How old are you? And what would be your goal in adding to you're trt, as both of those things will play a factor in what you can add.

Higher testosterone would usually be my suggestion, if you're not worried about hairline something like masteron would also be a great choice, fairly mild, has anti estrogenic properties, and will help free up some test, since you're not a "serious lifter" it would be safe to assume you're not looking to be huge, so I would avoid some of the harsher compounds

Always stick to adding 1 compound at a time so you know how you react.

Anavar or Tbol would also be mild choices if wishing to go the oral add on route

If cost is not an issue primobolan would be an excellent choice if bodyfat is relatively low

Won't Anavar and Tbol wreck your lipids? I don't mess with orals, but always heard they're bad for that.

Those would be the mildest orals and I wouldn't say wreck your lipids, diet can wreck your lipids, elevate yes in higher dosages but as a modest addition for a few weeks highly doubtful

Even though both are mild in terms of liver impact. Research shows that they’ll decimate your cholesterol numbers by 50% in just four weeks at a low dosage of 10-20mg. Not a good option for adding to TRT unless you have 4 to 6 months before blood work with your doctor for return to acceptable levels.

I've never seen that sort of impact on my numbers even with harsher compounds, dbol abombs, as I said barely even elevated, maybe I just respond well, but in my actual experience it was never a big deal, longer duration high dosages maybe that would change but short kickstart a or finishes with orals never made a big difference.

But on that note it seems a lot of people in Canada aren't exactly lucky to have a doctor willing to do blood work regularly, as I'm a firm believer in not adding compounds in without getting bloods done while on them, as you have no clue what it's doing to you, and if you are in fact staying healthy while running harsher compounds, like for me deca doesn't affect my health markers too badly, while Tren literally destroys my lipids, and makes my prolactin and e2 Al screwy

100% everyone responds differently so the only way to truly know is try it and get BW

as the tread is about TRT add ons. i assume the OP's risk tolerance is based on not wanting to jeopardize the TRT prescription and likely 40+. If that assumption is correct my recommendations for add-ons are in the following order:
  1. More Test - simply increase dosage. Prop is actually a nice little boost. In fast - out fast. likely the lowest risk to TRT BW
  2. Primo - lowest possible sides... possible impact to BW is a temporary increase in PSA number. (which can be offset with 5mg cialis)
  3. Mast - boost in libido, strength and free test (by lower SHGB) - once again increased PSA is likely the highest risk but is tempoary and can be off set
But hey....i know lots of folks that use low dosage tren, deca and DHB with TRT. all fine if your BW can handle it and you are willing to answer questions if you fuck up LOL

I appreciate the information, so are you honest with your doctor when you cycle? Yeah that would be my worry if i do cycle I would want to do blood work to be safe and monitor it but would never want that in my medical chart. Lot of good info! I really appreciate it thanks man !

I am 23 years old, so on the younger side and was hoping to add some muscle mass and strength and also see how I respond. More of a test run if anything. If I wasn't already on TRT ( At a clinic now but its for legitment purposes from internal medicine doctor before he moved) . I would probably never consider a cycle before TRT but since my natural production is permanently shut down anyways I thought at least asking some questions and researching into it wouldn't hurt. I was looking at more mild substances maybe Anavar or proviron. But I've heard orals can be hard on your liver and I don't mind injections. I have lower SHBG so typically slightly higher E2 and Free T on my TRT but so far no high E2 symptoms, I know some compounds effect E2 more though. I have a strong hairline so it's not an big concern. Do you think it would be the smartest choice to start with an increased Test Cycle (400mg) rather than add in something like anavar? I just finished a bulk so sitting at around 210lbs at 6 foot 1. Bulked up from 165lbs over 5 months. So was planning on cutting down to around 185lbs now. I've heard its a waste to do your first cycle on a cut, is this true?

Thats my biggest issue is I want to get blood work done even on a mild cycle to be safe but I don't want to jeopardize my trt. I have a naturopath I could probably get to write me a blood work req and pay for out of pocket.

I really appreciate the reply. I definitely have a lot more to learn. I originally was leaning towards adding 200mg of ugl prop or sust per week onto my TRT (200mg of Test-E) per week, bumping me up to 400mg and trying it for 16 weeks since atleast I know how I respond to it.

Prop would def be they way to go like oldgiyjj said, especially in your situation, that way you can clear out fast if needed

I am pretty open with one doc (friends) but not with my GP. I don't cycle like many guys do. I am in my 40's, health is priority one, and I am big enough. "A cycle" is adding 50-150 mg of primo a week or increasing my test from 100 mg a week to 150 mg a week with test prop and 1-2 IU of script HGH added in to my TRT. I know from trial and error when to stop so my hormones will be in the right range.
I am not adventurous anymore and add muscle or lean out with dietary changes and minor changes in PED's.

If your on TRT, you don't want your doctor knowing you cycle or they will probably cut you off. Every medical issue you have will be blamed on PED's even if it has nothing to do with the compounds. There are doctors out there who are exceptions but most are not. My Ortho, also a friend, is a world class power lifter who is open discussing PED's, peptides, HGH, etc.
