Tariff War

This is just theatre. This has nothing to do with the border, at least with Canada. Trump couldn't simply threaten tariffs willy nilly because of the CUSMA agreement. He had to invent a "national emergency" (border security) in order for him to be granted power over trade under the "international emergency powers" act. His real goal is likely to renegotiate CUSMA
 
Phew. Trudeau let Trump put the tip in a little bit so we can survive without the 25% tax.
10000 border personelle and some other uprades worth $200M or something.
 
Hopefully, those in government and business who can seek new trade partners continue to do so.
This carrot and stick approach from the US, or maybe it's just all stick and no carrot, isn't going away.

Donnie is doing what he thinks he is best for the US, protecting US interests, not seeking friends.
Our political class really should do the same.

Been absorbing a lot of content on the subject matter though.
Outrage from all angles is understandable. One thought keeps coming to mind, something I don't get, I guess it's a question.
Nope, I think i get it and just want to point it out. Fuck, maybe it will get even one person to rethink a little bit.
All the people that are getting upset in one way or another with what Trump is doing - Whatever country you live in don't you want a leader, a government that prioritizes your citizens needs above all others? That's supposedly what they got voted in and are getting paid for isn't it? If you are able to do that and still be respectful of the rest of the planet that's groovy of course.
Even if you don't like the methods it appears like that is what he's doing. IDKFAS though.

I see accusations of bullying with regard to these tariffs trump is doing. WTF is up with that? I've run some business' I was never able to bully anyone into buying from me or selling to me at any price point or doing either at all.

TLDR; I feel like if anybody wants to be mad about this they should be mad at all the people over the years who put us or allowed us to be in a shit vulnerable position. You know who they are. Easy relevant example - I bet a lot of guys here can see the clearly bad business decisions that have been made in the oil industry to get that where it is today. Regardless of the type of business having a huge majority of your sales coming from and/or depending on a single customer/partner is a recipe for disaster.
Pick a sport, IMO Trump is playing like that fucking prick on the other team that I hate because he is effective and would love to have on my side.

I thought the exact same thing. He will do the best for his country. Wish our leader would do that for us. I said this months ago before he even got in and there was talk.

Personally I think he’s just flexing. Testing the room and see what he can get away with and if he has the leverage. Common business practice, but I’ve never had a country with a huge army to back me.

I don’t overly like his style, but it is effective, and more old school.

I was thinking the same thing.

I do that with negotiating contracts with new suppliers. I always look at what’s in it for me to buy from you guys…. He’s definitely running it like a businessman
 
...... I think Trump just quenched his thirst with lust for Power as he made Canada and Mexico in a Hyperbolic panic zone ..... I wonder if all this uncertainty was just a Hoax, and Their are other motives behind this in Trumps head...like it was all talk, and in 30 days we will get another extension of some sort. It was a test to see how far he can go!

At the shallow end, he could just be trolling JT as payback for all the shit talk.

At the other extreme,
he's using his powerful economic and intelligence apparatus to root out corruption, waste, drain the swamp, and MAGA per his election platform.

Probably something somewhere in between those two.

My though is what he was really after was the joint US-Canada organized crime unit. His administration wants to know exactly how dangerous the CCP influence on the Canadian government is to US interests. This joint task force will allow him direct access to see just how far the corruption goes and the power to compel disclosures.
We might even find out who the 11 traitors are from Elon, before we hear anything from our own parliament. 😂

Well their economy is also in bad shape, so he has to find creative ways to bully other nations to give in and meet his objectives, economically , strategically and many social Platforms, This is how he will get extra cash flowing as he just did with the Tarif Panic....

Good point, but for sure there are other stuff happening, Tarifs was the decoy and the objective was to cause anger frustration and uncertainty.
