Reading Books

The Old Guy

Village idiot
I’ve been voracious in the past but life has been busy.

I just downloaded the Kindle for my IPad and am starting to read quite a bit again.

My interest seems to be mostly biographies and I’m currently reading Scar Tissue, about Anthony Kiedes.

Any other nerds like me into reading ? Any suggestions on good books I can download and read ? Any places online to find books cheaper or for free ?

I love to read. I much perfer a actual book but have a kindle as well. I enjoy fiction. I have read every book written by Wilbur Smith. He writes historical fiction set in Africa. I also really enjoy the Jack Reacher series of books by Lee Child. I also read a lot on the internet. I cannot image a life without books :(

@The Old Guy your welcome to any book I have downloaded. Some I bought, some borrowed and some given to me by friends.

I read tons... I have grown to love my kobo I got for Christmas. So easy to read lying in bed. I read fiction and mostly historical fiction though.

If you are interested in some of my fav authors let me know.

When i was still logging I used to read a lot, I'd literally bring a box of books into camp. SciFi was my go to.

Ive got two on the go:

1. Rogue Warrior. Autobiography of the founder of US Navy Seal Team Six. Amazing read.

2. Never Split The Difference. This is a book on negotiation written by an Ex FBI kidnapping and counter terrorism specialist. Its amazing. I use his tactics to talk to my parents and in-laws, among other things, and the results are truly unbelivable.

Recently it has been strictly Cultural Anthropology and the books by Yuval Noah Harari.

I love reading. I can't do the kindle thing though - my mind is too conditioned to holding a book and flipping the pages.

Believe it or not, I prefer reading theological books. I know thats not most guys cup of tea, so I probably wont bother recommending any ;)

You do understand that's called manipulation, lol

If you had to interact with my family you'd understand it's the only way. They are emotional / mental terrorists, so need to be dealt with as such.

I only started reading the book 3 weeks ago so I still have a lot to learn. The last dinner I had with my family my mother ended up telling me to 'go fuck myself' and that she was glad she had other kids because I was a selfish asshole, and she says all this in front of my wife and kids, haha! Then she left the restaurant, leaving my father behind for me to drive him home, and the other guests at tables surrounding ours in shock at our interaction. This is typical, if it's not me it's my brother that locks horns. If not my mother, then my father. He likes to throw things and demean our intelligence... this was over a discussion about plans for X-mas holidays because I told her we also need to spend time with my in-laws so they can see my kids during X-mas too.

I was just a couple chapters into the book so I called her the next day: FM DJ voice, mirroring, labeling, etc... in 10 min she was my best friend and all the plans I need to put into place were a go, and on top of that she thinks it's all her idea.

I love them all, and I don't take any of it personally. It's that Eastern European blood, mixed with a lot of wine and scotch. Call it what you will. I love this book!

No, I have not had the chance to read that one. I've heard a little bit about it. I believe it has something to do with being a kind of introduction to Taoist and Confucianist thinking, correct?

I'm always ordering used books off Amazon for one or two pennies. You can find some real gems on there. All you have to do is pay about $6:50 for the shipping. I'll have to to a quick look for this one.

Everything by Bernard Cornwell is awesome. Especially the 10 books in the last kingdom series which is now on Netflix

Also a big fan of Patrick Rothfuss, he has an amazing Trilogy

Nothing better than a series of books when you don’t have to relearn the characters.

I just googled "The Tao of Pooh pdf" and i found an online copy of ot. I'll probably still order the book off Amazon, though - I have a hard time reading books on computer screens or tablets, etc. Too set in my ways, lol.

Thank you though, T !

Always interesting to see what guys are into.

As mentioned I read a lot of bios. Going to reread a couple of Skynryd bios as I just saw them last month thanks to Bull.

Open to any suggestions.

I also like reading Jack Higgins and Clive Cussler books when I'm in the mood for some lighter reading.

I like Higgins' character Dean Dillon and Cussler's character Dork Pitt. Good reading.
