Low protein diet increases metabolism + insulin sensitivity

Not too long ago I stopped eating the regular bodybuilding diet and cut my protein intake quite low and noticed I got a lot leaner and my waist got a lot smaller even though I kept calories the same.

I was kind of wondering how this was possible since I figured protein would increase metabolism and carbs are known to be fattening.

came across a few studies of low protein diets actually causing decreased food intake, increased insulin sensitivity, increased fat loss, among other things

probably isn’t the best thing long term (or for bodybuilding, it’s more for health) but I’ll probably follow a low-zero protein diet more often now. Really I just take 1 protein shake pre or post workout, with about 30g of protein and no protein (direct sources) if I don’t workout

One con was I did notice a decrease in muscle, but I don’t bodybuild anymore so it’s not a real concern to me. Strength has been relatively the same but decreased a bit

here’s a few studies

BAN!!!!?????
Will not read as this is against my religin.
Obviously these studies are the work of SATAN and probably "bad actors" from China, Iran and Russia.

If you add up the numerical value of the word "protein" and convert to Latin roughly translated it means "God or Godlike, Heaven"
If you add up "low protein" you get "666" (THE NUMBER OF THE BEAST!!!!)
Insert the hyphen "low-protein" and you get "667" (THE NEIGHBOUR OF THE BEAST!!!)

Possibly even a desperate cry for help from @Rocky whom I have been concerned about as I've seen him slipping away for a couple of years now - "I don’t bodybuild anymore so it’s not a real concern to me" !?! OMG it may already be too late but who's down for an intervention to save this once promising young man? (I can bring cookies and pop)

This approach to losing weight is called carb cycling. That is how I lost 50 lbs in 16 weeks training for my first competition. I found after the first 3 weeks of low carbs high protein and fat I lost a little over 12 lbs and I plateaued for a week so my trainer and I decided to go high carb low fat and low protein for a week and keep the calorie intake the same. I lost 5 lbs that week. Your body always seem to counter what you are doing especially if you are depriving it with something, like low carbs, so when I changed my tactic to high carbs for a week the body seem to revive itself and allowed me to start to lose weight again. I don't know the science to it but it worked for me. After the week on high carbs I reversed it back to low carbs high protein and fat and I continued to lose weight. I always upped the carbs for a while when I plateaued. on the weight lose.

I honestly haven't read any of the links itt yet but I am a big big proponent of carb cycling and have personally had and also been party to many experiences that mirror what you've posted. This is one of the few things that we discuss here that I've never felt the need to get all crazy "researching" about. Sure I did some reading but it's so simple at it's basic level and I can't think of a single person I've dealt with that did it properly that has not made great progress in fat loss with it.
Good post bud.

Well, one of the things that can have the most impact on insulin-resistance is excess bodily-fat. A diet that is very high in fat, such as Keto, can temporarily increase insulin-resistance. This is a natural, non-pathological form of insulin-resistance, that is beneficial due to its glucose-sparing nature. And yes, fat-mediated insulin-resistance is usually benign in people eating a proper high-fat/very low-carb/low-protein diet. Felines are naturally insulin-resistant. This is not a problem, until they start eating too many carbs like playing canada casino online.

this is true, the body makes itself insulin resistant to keep blood glucose from dropping too low

Fasting can achieve the same results as far as insulin sensitivity and glucose metabolism, as well as some other health-related effects like autophagy, increased ketone production, and a much needed rest for your liver and kidneys. Even though building muscle is fun constantly blowing up your IGF-1 and MTOR pathways with constant high protein consumption is the quickest way to aging quickly, growing cancer and developing metabolic disease. A perfect way to combat this without sacrificing the majority of the time spent in a muscle building state is fasting on a monthly or quarterly basis.
