ebike conversion kits

anyone do one?

I've looked at a few and they seem fairly easy and good quality, but I'm wondering why e bikes are so expensive compared to a reg bike and adding your own conervsion kit??

For what it's worth I talked to someone about this and he converted a regular bicycle and modded the kit to get it to reach 90km/hr. I saw it, he hit the gas and the back wheel just peels out on the spot and takes off like a rocket. I forget how much he said he spent on it. It looked ghetto but that was the point so nobody would bother stealing it.
