Can cannabis affect memory? Largest study yet investigates

hmmm... interesting.. Can't say I'm surprised considering its "heavy users" study. I'd like to see similar studies for occasioanl users and light users. A first aid instructor told me they now believe heavy long term use can cause schizophrenia. Her brother developed schizophrenia in his 30's and they are conviced it's his incredibly heavy pot use.. who knows though, by the way she told the story i am guessing there was other drugs as well.

I'd also like to see a study of how much, if any, all these symptoms improve if the person quits it completely.

I admit, I use canibus almost daily before bed.. but its such a tiny amount.. but I still wonder if its affecting my memory which is deffinitely starting to fail me, but I accepted it as part of getting older. 1 gram will last me probably 3-5 months.

Don't know if you needed a study to find that out haha, most smoking cannabis cannot even remember where they put their lighter

One of the main reasons I never really used cannabis is because of its negative effects on my memory. At the time in high school, academics was really important to me, so anything that had a negative effect on cognition for me was automatically blacklisted.

I can always tell the heavy smokers I hire at work. It’s almost like their brains run slower, not as aware.
But I’ll say there has been a few exceptions. Guy I’m teaching how to make sausage right now smokes a bit every day and has no issues with memory. But he is the exception, not the rule.

Truthfully a guy who has 3 beer a day is more aware than a guy who smokes a joint a day.

But I guess it could also depend on your job. If you have a job there a super high level of attention isn’t needed, it may not make a difference.

It can. I was a heavy smoker since Dec.21/89. Tried it that day and within 4 days I was buying my own so 17 until 46. Average use was 2 grams per day of the "primo" as we called it back then. So an ounce lasted 2wks or so.

Never found a loss of ability at work to complete complex mathematical equations, design for experiment, set manufacturing processes, procedures and implementation. Project management from prototyping off to full production then a burn down plan for end of product life. Complex parts- technically challenging components. All aspects from raw material, fixturing, programming, tooling, etc to shipping depending on which job I worked. My education is mechanical engineer. All no real issues except........

IF I smoke a crumb of weed then try to work it's all over. Tons of mistakes, oodles of errors. Stupid stuff. Really blatant errors. Same goes for alcohol. Just one drink does the same thing. Obviously if I'm so hung over I reek of booze the day is almost a right off as well.

I will definitely say that when I stopped smoking weed about two months later I felt a lot better inside. Breathing was better, energy level higher and a better sense of well being. Weed for me is turning a switch off to life and the "ings"- thinking, feeling, doing, considering, trying and so on and so forth. Found alcohol to be 1000 times worse in these respects though.

I smoked fairly heavily for a few months a couple times during my life.. Worst and last period was in my first year of university.. every dam night we smoked until we were stupid.. The next day I was one stunned dumb ass.. and paranoid.. It was getting to the point I was becoming a shut in and could only feel ok when I was stoned.. if I wasn't, I was paranoid, brain fog, anti social etc..

Then one day I said no more.. cold turkey.. and within a couple days a light swtich flipped, the grey skies parted and life was normal again..

I've seen people going through what I did and I just want to tell them put the shit down.. life is better and you get out of that funk..

I was never near as heavy a user as you either.. Some people, like me, can't handle much before it's bad.

I stopped smoking weed in the 70's I coughed my guts out every time.

I use THC to manage pain after the last spinal surgery went so badly. I get so forgetful after just a few days of consecutive use. I also noticed I am more prone to procrastantion and just plain laziness.
