Air fryer worth it?

We’ve got one also. My wife uses it all the time. She loves it. I prep most of my food on the bbq

I think it tastes so much better on the bbq, so I do the same. but the air fryer is faster.
That little thing is fast. My wife can’t stand reheating food in the microwave so for her it’s a god send. She works from home so she can do that.

I prep all my meals on the weekend so Sunday I cook 2 Costco packs of chicken breast and 2 packs of flank steak for the week. I also prefer the taste on the grill though too.

I would say that though the air fryer does the job and does it pretty well, if you compare it to the real taste of the same, it is totally different. I personally like to eat french fries a lot, but don't like the air fried.

Can't definitely say much about this lady's findings and can't find much of anything on the reliability of those lead swabs.

At their very best, they may be able to confirm the presence of lead (Pb).

Presence doesn't actually mean hazardous levels. And who knows what could cause a false positive in this case is definitely a point to be raised.

Not to say that Pb is beneficial in any amount within the human body....but exposure levels are relavent when discussing toxicity.....so I digress....

Be careful what you believe from a social media influencer whom always has an agenda...be it personal, financial of both. Especially when they are asking you to bump their accounts for their "proven detox strategies" lol. Some vitamins have shown to assist in reducing absorption, or a chelating effic with foods high in sulphur etc. But for true Pb toxicity we are talking chelation therapy, hemodialysis etc etc. Not to discount removing the source obviously.

I would be wary of ordering such a device off of Alibaba etc. Where God knows what it's made of or the conditions on which it was made etc etc etc.

Pb can be nasty and cause all kinds of health and reproductive issues in both males and females if ingested or absorbed. True absorption is a little tricky but can happen. Exposure to be most concerned with is by far ingestion.

However it is excreted by the body as well (not all heavy metals are). So folks with high blood levels will see a decrease over time if the source is removed or better hygiene principles are enacted. Not in acute toxicity, but more long term exposures to lower levels. True toxicity must be treated.

In this case, I wouldn't be overly concerned with Pb exposure from a well made brand name product fryer. I would be more concerned with mercury (Hg) in fish than Pb from an air fryer to try to put it in perspective.

Im not arguing with anyone I'm just contributing to the topic...I got this quick from meta a.i.

Yes, there have been studies conducted to investigate the potential leaching of metals from air fryers. Here are some findings:

*Studies on Metal Leaching from Air Fryers*

1. *Study by the University of California, Berkeley (2020)*

- Researchers tested 12 air fryer models for lead, cadmium, and arsenic leaching.
- Results showed that 75% of the air fryers leached lead, 50% leached cadmium, and 25% leached arsenic.
- The study found that the non-stick coatings were the primary source of metal leaching.

2. *Study by the Danish Technological Institute (2019)*

- Researchers tested 10 air fryer models for metal leaching, including lead, cadmium, and chromium.
- Results showed that 60% of the air fryers leached lead, 40% leached cadmium, and 20% leached chromium.
- The study found that the metal leaching was more pronounced when cooking acidic foods.

3. *Study by the German Federal Institute for Risk Assessment (2018)*

- Researchers tested 15 air fryer models for metal leaching, including lead, cadmium, and nickel.
- Results showed that 47% of the air fryers leached lead, 27% leached cadmium, and 13% leached nickel.
- The study found that the metal leaching was influenced by factors such as cooking temperature, cooking time, and food type.

*Key Findings and Implications*

- The studies suggest that metal leaching from air fryers is a potential concern, particularly for lead and cadmium.
- The non-stick coatings and electrical components of air fryers are likely sources of metal leaching.
- Cooking acidic foods, using high temperatures, and prolonging cooking times may increase the risk of metal leaching.
- It is essential to choose air fryers from reputable manufacturers that use high-quality materials and follow safety standards.

*Limitations and Future Research Directions*

- The studies had limited sample sizes and focused on specific metal contaminants.
- Further research is needed to investigate the leaching of other metals and chemicals from air fryers.
- Studies should also explore the health implications of metal leaching from air fryers and develop guidelines for safe usage.

By acknowledging the potential risks and taking steps to minimize metal leaching, consumers can enjoy safe and healthy cooking with their air fryers.

I never expected that Airfryer could be that much damaged. I would like to use the AirFryer, but now after using it, I cannot imagine a life without the same.

I believe the forever chemical hazard that @Funnyman is alluding to, comes from overheating of the Teflon coating.
Probably more a concern with lower quality ones that have poor control and localized overheating. Easily avoided by sticking with SS or ceramic cooking chamber.

Search for Teflon flu, or polymer fume fever if interested.

Love mine but the next one I get will be a stainless one over Teflon. The main reason for Teflon is clean up but we have silicone inserts which are easy to clean and the end result is the same.

Are the silicone inserts a game changer? I hate cleaning the air fryer after making chicken breast lol

Clean up is a breeze with the inserts. Picked up a 4 pack off of Amazon for a reasonable price and I do still wash out the basket from time to time.

The wife and I bought one a cpl years ago from pampered chief. We use it daily and can even cook a rotisserie chicken in it .
