Anyone Vegetarian or vegan?

Maybe brave to ask on a bodybuilding forum, but I’m curious if anyone else is vegan or vegetarian?

I classify as vegetarian, as I’m not too strict when it comes to finding products that are 100% fee of dairy and egg. Nearly 6 years now anyway. Always interested in hearing different perspectives.

I think there are lots of misconceptions around it. I can’t say if it’s better or worse, I made much of my gains in my younger years while still eating meat. That being said, still managed to get marginally stronger and bigger/fitter even while I was on a 5 year break from PEDs.

Anyway, can be a subject people get defensive about, so I like to hear opinions on it.

My brother is. He's in outstanding shape too, but leaner and toned. He does have to take various nutritional supplements to get his minerals up. We're basically the same height. He's probably around 190lb and I'm 250 and change, so that says something for eating meat but we obviously have very different goals.

That said I do try to incorporate some of his eating habits after he got me to watch the movie Game Changers. It was very interesting, and some of the non-meat alternative foods these days are really good.

I doubt it makes a difference if your nutrient intake is similar.

i was my biggest when I ate a vegetarian diet, I didn’t even realize I was eating a vegetarian diet at the time. All I used for protein was whey/egg whites because it was so cheap compared to meat.

meat also never digested well for me, whenever I ate meat, I couldn’t eat as much and would feel bloated. I actually preferred eating meat when Im eating a low protein diet and whey/egg whites when I am eating a high protein diet

I’m pescatarian where i’m vegetarian but I do eat seafood and I don’t drink milk since I’m lactose intolerant. Meat makes me tired and it messes up with my hormones but seafood is a lot lighter meat so it doesn’t have that affect and they don’t inject hormones into fish so it doesn’t affect my hormones. I do eat a lot of organic food.

I see nothing wrong with anyone eating how they want.
Owning a butcher shop of course I have a bias, lol, but we make multiple vegetarian products, because in a family there might be a person who is vegetarian, a lot of times the wife, and we were trying to attract them to buying from our shop. Our butcher shop also doesn’t stink like meat, it smells like smoke and home cooked meals. I think that helps a lot.
I have drastically cut down my meat intake, try to eat more veggies, more balanced. My belief is we need a balanced diet to get at the nutrients, but like anything too much of one thing is likely not going to be healthy.

I think it would be neigh on impossible for me to achieve my goals being a vegetarian.

I do eat a lot of veggies & I'm quite happy eating a veggie dish from time to time but it just doesn't align with my goals.

.....currently eat 1kg of meat a day. Can't imagine eating that much tofuturky.

Did vegan for the better part of a year. Unfortunately picked up a parasite 🦠 and basically shit through the the eye of a needle for 3 months. Once I was back to full function I reintroduced meat.

My gf and I tried to stay away from the processed fake meat stuff which makes being vegan very hard.

Yeah, realistically I don’t thinks my intake of vitamins and minerals has changed any, I am more conscious of it. I believe a lot of the potential deficiencies are blown out of proportion, and people that do experience them are just due to poor diet choices. I’ve known a few vegetarians and vegans that are some of the least healthy and overweight people I know.

That being said, I am by far the biggest and strongest person in the groups I hang around with and at my work etc. So everyone is always blown away when I tell them I don’t eat meat.

Game changers is an interesting movie... I want to like it because it supports my cause, but they make these documentaries from such a biased point of view that it almost hurts their cause.

Vegan here - mainly because dairy is a no no for me and meat just doesn't sit well with my digestion. I won't say it's heathier since you can go vegan and still eat junk - look at all the food choices out there that are trying to mimic meat/dairy, all processed. I stick to cooking most of my meals (I tend to meal prep the same things over and over again because I'm lazy and unimaginative), but I'll have a beyond burger as a "treat." In terms of gains, didn't lose a step, I hover around 250 - a fluffy 250 (my profile pic is current) - but overall no real difference compared to when I was eating more meat.

As for Game Changers, it was entertaining but biased. There are several "rebuttals" online concerning the claims made in the movie.

Sounds like a pretty healthy diet! Yeah my wife and I were pescatarian for awhile before cutting meat out all together for ourselves.

Big thing is listening to what your body needs for sure.

That’s pretty cool that you include a few other products at you shop for vegetarians. Do they sell alright, or at least have a decent shelf life as not to be a waste for you?

But yeah, balanced diet all the way. People always ask me if I feel better on my diet now versus when I ate meat. I can’t really say much since I always are relatively healthy and consistently has a variety of nutrient sources anyway.

Yikes, what was the parasite? That’d be enough to turn plenty people back to their old diet,

I'll never cut meat out. I need beef and pork.....and an occasional fish dinner :)

Impressive man, that’s some pretty good size still. I hang around 230 most of the time at 6’5. I hear you though, I tend to stick to some staples myself, I could eat the same things over and over just to get the right nutrient intake and out of laziness and lack of creativity. My wife on the other hand can’t stand that and is always trying new vegan recipes, so that’s a bonus.

Agreed, like I mentioned above, Game Changers was too biased. It’s unfortunate because they have a good concept for the film, but they ruin their purpose by turning it into propaganda. Of course, it inflates the close minded vegans bias and they will quote that movie all day long.

They sell really well.
