starting prescription DHEA today

I
Some notes about prescription DHEA..

1) I have a very good medical plan, but I found out yesterday DHEA is NOT covered by my plan in anyway shape or form. We have a health spending account (if you know what that is) and its not even eligilbe thorugh that. I was told since DHEA has no DIN number (drug identification number), it can't be covered.. I told the lady on the phone "I scanned and sent you the prescription, a picture of the bottle AND a copy of my blood work ordered by my doctor which shows I am not longer producing that hormone".. She said it still must have a DIN #.. She also said it doesn't have a DIN number because there is something in the pill that has not been approved. I might have not worded that properly, but I think she said something in the script hasn't been approved so they can't give it a DIN number, but maybe in the future it will.

2) I just went to the gym 2 times since I been on DHEA because of the covid... I can tell you with 100% certainty that I now sweat like I used to when I was in my 20's in the gym. I don't know why, but I stopped sweating hard in the gym for many years.. Now, my shirt is drenched like it used to be.
Im not familiar with dhea at all , i suppose i should add that to my blood work lost too lol

of topic but id like to nonwhere u guys get these good doctors that investigate all this stuff , and actually care about what ypu need i have absolutely zero luck in that department and if i dont go in there forcing what to check id never get it.

I researched like mad. Fortunately mines only 2.5 hours away and does zoom meetings. Canada also. But the meetings are still $250 each. First one was $750.

A simple explanation about DINs.

Interesting.. I'm not sure which of those disquality DHEA or it was never applied for a DIN to begin with?

My doctor said the reason DHEA is never really valued is because there is absolutely no money in it. So maybe the DIN wasn't worth it to the drug companies? I pay liek 34$ for a month supply of 100mg pills. I can't see it worth all those hoops to get and maintain a DIN for 34$.. My understanding is my dose is very high and typical DHEA script is 25mg a day. So essential the patient would pay 34$ for a 4 month prescription... After all expenses of production at paid and to pay to get and maintain a DIN???

In the grand scheme of things, $34 for 4 months isn't too bad for Pharmaceutical Companies. If you take into account what some Benzos go for it isn't that far off. I wonder if the manufacturer went for a non-scrip first and thus be able to charge an arm and a leg.
Clonazepam for 500 is between $0.06 -$0.21 per unit. $27.63- $102.52 for 500.

Some meds are really cheap, and others are unaffordable. Business. Big business.

ya I've read arcticles about it... morally I couldn't be one of those companies..

One of the best peices of Canadian history was discovery of insulin and how cost efficient it was sold for under that first patent.

So I thought I should add a very very obvious thing..

My prescription for DHEA ran out and I took awhile to get in to get a new script.

I was off the 100mg DHEA for about 5 or 6 days before getting the new script.

I can sincerly say my "happiness", calmess, patience and general emotions deffinitely took a turn for the worse over those 6 days. It was really really obvious. My temper was shorter as well.

Once I got back on the DHEA, I felt back to normal over 3-5 days.

It was quite something to see. I'd like to stop the DHEA again sometime to see if the same thing happens to me.

I looked back through your posts and it's great that you've taken the time to make a bit of a journal of your experience. Thanks for that!

It certainly has some interesting characteristics that I wouldn't mind seeing if I could take advantage of. God, my sleep is JUNK and that's putting it lightly. Take sleep out of the mix of your life and frig so much of everything else just turns crappier. Mood, interest in just hopping in the car and going to the beach and anything energetic.

That's a damn quick half-life if it cleared out in 5 or 6 although an idiot put me on Paxil(that I didn't need) a long time ago and coming off that was like getting electroshocked for an entire month from about day 4 or 5. Move my head and BAM BAM BAM shock shock shock.

I'd love to try it but my flipping doctor is one of those, "Uh huh okay. So umm where'd you hear of that? Uh huh. Well we're already working on your chronic pain problem/old injuries/low Testosterone problem and I wouldn't want to interfere with that" types. Then she'd look and see it helps produce testosterone and I'd see a gleam in her eyes before she'd discuss cutting my delastryl for my TRT. I swear to god, I hear some of you guys with doctors you can actually work with without being afraid of triggering an attack on your current way of things and am so jealous.

Is it okay to ask if you're already dealing with other issues like low T and stuff with your doctor or is the DHEA helping for most?

I have a crappy doctor ... have always had them so you do your research or read stuff on here then ask your doctor to send you to an endocrinologist. They are capable of determining all this stuff as that is there job. I always have to ask my doc to go through all my blood markers and tell me what is high or low, why and does it have an effect on me. I should not have to do that. She has missed so much shit and left me with no prescription while on vacation with no back up for refills ... I am not happy but now I work around her. I am going to give DHEA a try if I can find it on-line to see if it boosts me as well.

If I remember correctly Dracorex carries it.

I get my prescription through my Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy doc. 25/day. Sometimes with prescriptions that are compounded you have to submit to benefits separately and make note that they are compounded - I find for some items they'll determine some of the ingredients and reimburse, but for others they're like, ya fuck off.

If you are low in DHEA naturally, you can sometimes get your natural test production better by supplementing with DHEA to my understanding. DHEA must be in range to have the proper test levels. DHEA is a precursor to test.

I;m on 75mg TRT a week and thyroid support meds. both script. Through same doctor

Couple things..

I pay out of pocket for my script of DHEA.. its not covered and I have a decent plan. cost about 30$ a month.

#2- yes DHEA has a very short half life.. Before taking DHEA I had levels around 5 or 6. On 100mg a day, my levels jumped up to like 14.8ish.

I had a few blood tests that showed my DHEA was regularly at 14ish on 100mg a day.

One of those blood tests, I did not take my DHEA the morning I had my blood test and my levels were 9ish.

So waiting 8 hours made my DHEA levels drop quite a bit.
