Wasn't sure to post this here or the mental health sub forum.. This sub formum seems to get more traffic though lol..

My wife has anxiety. She was diagnosed with fairly severe anxiety and put on anti anxeity meds. She did a lot to help herself and was able to get off the meds. She takes other supplements which help a lot and give her less side effects than her script.

She is wanting to try CBD oil to see if that can help.

It's tough getting an answer as to a starting dose of CBD oil for anxiety. Some research said for her body weigh 840mg once a day and move towards twice a day if needed. Seems very very high..

Anyone have any personal real life experience with CBD oil and dosing for anxiety/calming?

I bought 2 bottles of CBD oil dosed at 25mg per ml. Just not sure what dose to start at.

thanks

840 mg seems wrong to me. That would also be crazy expensive. I tried it few times for sleep and think I only went up to 30mg. But dont have the bottle in front of me. Like anything start low. She will build up a tolerance as well. So the higher you start the more she will need to be effective. I think cbd will work great, I prefer a blend with thc and cbd but that can actually make it worse for her depending how she reacts. Also look into gaba if you haven't already. It works wonders for some.

GABA didn't seem to do much for her.

she can't handle any THC.. It would put her in the ER with anxiety/panic attack. lol.

I took 25mg about 2 hours ago to test it for her. I think I feel it a bit. I use pot to sleep so its hard for me to say if the oil has an effect on me right now or not.. My head feels kinda floaty from the 25mg.

I'll get her to try 12.5mg tomorrow morning.

That dosage is wrong. My brother has severe anxiety from ptsd and won’t stay on his meds. Dr now got him trying cbd at 25mg 3 times per day. Plus has a cbd vape pen if he is having an episode fir fast acting help

This is my opinion based on my own experiences and the fact that I have a lot of veteran friends with anxiety and PTSD and we discuss treatment. CBD is too mild for people with diagnosed anxiety disorders unless used in ridiculously high (unaffordable) doses. It can help when added to an existing regimen, but I don’t know anyone with a diagnosed anxiety disorder who only uses CBD.

I use cbd 500 1-1 full spectrum. It works like a hot damn. However, from my 25ml dose to effectiveness is 3 hours. I am going to supplement with 10 ml gummies and lowered cbd amount.

My PTSD/Panic and anxiety are at their worst currently and this hit makes quick work of it and kills my pain from from previous Bike accident at the same time.

This is the best remedy I have found. I urge you to look at a THC/CBD blend and dose low at the start. dialing in took me a few months. Weed sends me into a panicked hyperventilating tailspin faster than an oversized snort of blow!!

I have not drank or used drugs in over 30 years I was highly skeptical. However, I am really glad I pushed through.

Can you send me a link to the CBD 500 1-1 full spectrum? Not sure what that is.. Does it have TCH?

My wife will not touch anything with THC and to be honest, I don't think she ever should use THC as a daily med.. She wouldn't be able to drive, work etc.. IT sounds like you react the same, but your using THC by working up to the dose? Can you legally drive taking it?

I have a diagnosed anxiety disorder and frequently use low dose THC, w high CBD content. I frequently contend with pain, and when it is pain related anxiety I find the CBD oil helps, but it has to have some THC. The one bottle I have on the go has 2.3mg THC to 25mg CBD, which is nothing.

I don't notice any psychoactive effects from that small bit of THC, aside from improved focus. Keep in mind these are small amounts, but there are different types of THC. THC derived from Sativa have the opposite effect from that derived from Indica. Sativa is like a cup of coffee, I feel alert, zoned in, and improves my mood.

I find the issue with driving while using small amounts of THC or CBD to be extremely exaggerated. Again, these are small amounts. I have occasionally vaped some pot, but these days I avoid driving.

Can I ask what pain do you get with your anxiety?

The wife gets intense leg pain, jaw pain and sometimes neck pain.

We figured out the jaw/neck pain is from clentching jaw/grinding teeth. She has a expesive mouth guard she uses everyday which takes care of the pain except when her anxiety is really acting up.

I can't figure out the cause of the leg pain though.. its not like she clentches her leg muscles or is moving around enough to jsutistfy any pain let alone pain that prevents her from sleeping. She has to put heat pads on her thighs nearnly every night.. Since starting the CBD oil she has only had to do this once.. I would LOVE to know the link between anxiety and leg muscle pain.. I can't figure it out. But i have read anxiety tricks your brain into feeling physical pain when there is no physical reason to have physical pain..

Are you similar?

From my experience anxiety is a response to inescapable/unabated pain. That goes for any pain, mental or physical. Even at my worst (pre-spine surgery) I did core exercises, walked, and hiked. All low impact, but strenuous enough to keep my core conditioned. My pain levels now are nothing compared to what they were, but it is mostly my low back, inflammation which impacts upon certain nerves. Even now when my back starts acting up I notice my anxiety will immediately tick up, but I recognize it well enough to be able to address the underlying issue, stretching, dedicated core exercises, and generally tylenol is sufficient. For inflammation I will notice the anxiety first, b/c at its worst it is overwhelming, and I've found CBD oil works better than most meds. B/c I know it's inflammation I will take 250mg of naproxen, and btwn the two I've had great results.

I find CBD oil really helps with inflammation, and it's the inflammation that has always been most difficult as I had nerve damage prior to my surgery. As for anxiety causing pain, sure. That's why opiates are so insidious, they get rid of all pain, mental and physical, which creates a loop leading to higher dosages. Plus, pain is very taxing on your CNS, so one's ability to manage normal stress is greatly impacted. As mentioned above, with severe inflammation I have anxiety b/f I realize the symptoms of inflammation. I've gotten a whole lot better at recognizing the issues, and thankfully I have not had much inflammation for a while now. Small bouts are easily treatable with a single dose of CBD once or twice throughout the day.

Leg pain can be caused by an issue in another area. Perhaps the tension in her neck is causing tension in her lower back, which is causing a muscle to compress a nerve, which would result in leg pain. Everything is interconnected. I've heard of people who clench their teeth b/c they have misalignments elsewhere, either it travels up the spine, or through the shoulders.

You may want to research CBT strategies, along with breathing exercises. CBT will work for pain resulting from anxiety, but it doesn't work for legitimate physical pain. It might help with recognizing the source, perhaps reduce the severity.

Is she active? Does she roll out her quads? A lot of my discomfort can be managed simply by maintaining an active lifestyle, stretching, and doing core work. It also helps to allow oneself to decompress through breathing exercises.

This is what works for me.

That's a lot of good info, thank you.

No she's not active. I'm trying to get her moving more... She doesn't understand that yes when you start living a more active live, it hurts more at first but than it gets a lot better. That initial pain is always what stops her. She's a great person, but no one is more full of excuses than my wife when she doesn't want to do somethign lol... She'll start mild exercise like walking, body weight exercises and then get good results for a month and then find a reason to stop (usually anxiety related) and then she gets physcial pain from anxiety which is her excuse to just stop.

She hasn't tried a roller yet.. I'll look into it.

It sounds as though anxiety is the main culprit, which can be treated very successfully with CBT, but it takes a will to get past it. Plus, it is best if she is taught these skills by a clinician/psychotherapist. It's much easier to learn and apply a script when you are sitting across from someone.

I'm sorry to hear that she's struggling, and once you get into a rut it can be tough to pull yourself out of. That's why I work hard to ensure my cornerstone remains strong. Exercise has always been my redeemer. It's also resulted in a lot of pain, but that's b/c I push myself, overdo it, or briefly allow ego to take over, and then I learn my lesson.

We've had lots of talks about me not being able to be a doctor/therapist to her. She does see a therapist once in awhile when she's having a tough time. IT helps ltos

SHe's actually doing really well with her anxiety now. Before any of us knew she had bad anxiety, it was awful.. so many unexplained pains, wouldn't get out of bed, exhausted all the time, headaches etc.. it's been much better since she's learned some skills to manage it. But my brain never stops until I have fully solved a problem lol.. So we keep working on it together and streadily improve.

I found Welbutrin great for my anxiety, that extra dopamine really helps. I would ask her to enquire about CBT. It's incredibly effective for anxiety. I was taught it and once you have practiced and trained your brain it is amazing.

well I talked to 2 physchatrists who specialize in anxiety. I knew one personally about 15 years ago and the other was her husband. Either way, both are very strongly against THC use for anxiety/ptsd etc.. they said research is showing over time the THC will make anxiety worse despite some ppl having short term success.

The both said the research on 100% CBD oil for anxiety is still coming in and nothign conclusive yet.

THe husband was 100% against anything to do with canabis and treatment of anxiety.
I know of a couple people with ptsd who use cannabis. One is steadfastly opposed to the use, said the psychoactive elements are far too likely to exacerbate issues. The other two guys claim to use it without issue, but I've seen first hand how one becomes hyper-vigilant and paranoid. He also tends to drink too often and too much. I don't know enough about the other guys use to draw any conclusions.
As someone with anxiety I find cbd is best for anxiety, I find it calming, whereas thc tends to ramp me up. I'm good so long as I can stay in the moment, i.e. playing chess or cards, but I wouldn't use thc for any treatment based approach. I use oil or butter exclusively, which is not nearly as pronounced an effect as smoking. The odd time I smoke I need to be calm and relaxed.

The prices of CBD in Canada are ridiculous at best. At the OCS depending on the LP some go has high as $60 for 1 gram of CBD isolate. Think of how the pricing is in the USA where you can get a kilogram of CBD isolate for under $300. You can get 5 grams at the same price here.

Many of my knowns have used CBD for anxiety and pain and it works for them.
Stay away from THC. Will do more harm than good long-term.
