I'm asking in the competitiors corner b/c I think it's something to do with my sodium/potassium/magnesium levels..

I get constant muscle knots. Usually in my forearms/biceps. They are awful to the point that I can't use my hands sometimes.

Last night I used a sledge hammer to pound in 4 fence posts. Took me 15 mins. When I was done, my forearms were so pumped/cramped up from holding the hammer that I couldn't hold a glass of water last night. Even after the pump left, they were still cramped and locked up. Today, I still can't make a fist and squeeze. Typing is actually difficult.

They get so bad I have to go to chiro and they do dry needling and it makes it a lot better. But as soon as I do a bicep workout or some manual labour, they get all hard and knotted and I loose some function. My chiro said its from contracting my forarm muscles with no movemenrt. So curling, my forearms are contracted., but my hands stay locked for the set so those forarm muscles don't go through any ROM.. And when I'm done the set, they stay locked up. It's like static contraction training, but accidentily and when its over, the muscles are locked..

I am on a aitkins diet.. I do add salt to everything. I do add potassium to my water at about 1grm a day.. I eat lots of cheese for calcium. I take magnesium everyday..

what might be causing this?

Is their something in blood work I should get checked?

my chiro told me to do forearms full ROM exercises.. I tried and they just made my forearms lock up again..

I have tried stretching, which helps a tiny bit..

But to me, there must be something wrong which causes this to happen. I'd rather figure out the cause than to find things to help after the damage has been done again.

Magnesium
Taurine
B 12

Try these, first

I take med/high dose of magnesium everyday.. It's by itself though.. I know often magnesium is paired with calcium.. is this a better route? I was told they are better absorbed apart.

I do b12 injections.

I ordered Taurine last week. I have used taurine before (I really like it) and I didn't notice a difference, but then again my knotted muscles are much worse now then ever before.

If i were you I wouldn't take any calcium, only calcium from food, extra calcium can cause blockages in the arteries, id throw that away immediately. Typically if calcium was taken then k2 would be advised, but calcium isnt needed, d3 will work fine.

The next thing i suggest is thyroid. May sound silly, but when my thyroid failed me last year i couldn't even do one set of biceps, and the pump was so bad i lost all hand strength. If everything else checks out then do a full thyroid panel.

Also check you magnesium
And b12.

Are you taking folate with your b 12, folate will allow the b12 to drive onto the cells instead of just flaot around your blood stream.

Magnesium by itself is fine. My choice is magnesium glycinate.

When I’m on a cycle I notice my forearms and hands get pumped and cramp sometimes.
also if I do a most muscular my chest will knott up.
once on trt it goes away.
ive trued all the regular things, nit sure what’s causing it either.

I'm on 150mcg of synthroid already.. my TSG is 0.50 or so.. Not my thyroid, unless my body isn't converting T4 to T3... I have some T3 around the house, I could try 12.5 mcg for a few weeks???

I don't take folate.. I will look into it

Funny.. I know a couple other older, bigger, former body builders who have the same thing going on that I do.. Knotted up muscles from static contraction.. None of us are on a cycle, but the problems are there.

I don't think I accurately explained the feeling.. I have had bad pumps from cycles. The pump is so bad I can't do another rep.. This isn't the same.. I had a very good forearm pump last night from the sledge hammer, but once it was gone, thats when the pain and being locked up happened.

Another thing that happens to me a lot is if I am on a long phone call, I have to switch arms holding the phone every min or two.. If I hold the phone with one arm too long I can not straighten my arm.. my biceps/bracialradiaslis is friggin locked up solid.. It doesn't hurt until I try to bend my arm and it just kills.. But its not like those nasty hamstring leg cramps.. THose hurt the second they cramp and as the cramp goes away ALL the pain goes away.. The pain from these never goes away without chiro..

You can literally use your fingers and press into my muscles and feel how knotted up solid they are.

Now were getting somewhere.
If ur just on t4 then thats an issue.

Ur gonna have to pull a new thyroid panel, add in rt3 as well if bet your having a conversion issue.

For example im on 137 t4 and 50mcg t3. That puts me in range on my ft3 , likelyhood of synthroid by itself working for long term are slim

are you going to the doctor or a privarte clinic?

I just realized it might be because of my cholesterol meds.. 5mg Auro-Rosuvastatin..

Could that be it?

I'm reading about the cholesterol meds and I think this could be the cause of it.. I think before I try looking at my thyroid, I need to see if its the meds first..

I'm only on 5mg and my cholesterol is great right now.. I was put on it before I lost 45lbs and stopped eating carbs, so there's a good chance I don't need it.. I did talk to my doctor about stopping it after losing weight and diet change and he said "it can only help you and there's no reason to not take it"

If on statin you need to be taking 100-200 mg of ubiquinol. Critical to prevent muscle issues. Statins deplete Coq10.

I'll just have to stop the cholesterol meds and see if things get better..

I know when I first got on it I was also put on synthroid, I had a 1-2 month doc appoint afterwards to discuss how the meds were and if I had sides.. I had no sides at the time, but I'm wondering if they take time to show up or if you can develope them later on taking the med

At any time, sir. Someone once told me to think of meds with effects: those we want and those we don't. There are no sides. A different way of thinking?

Dead on the money.
My wife’s mother used to get global amnesia from statins. Clean the whole whose and not remember doing it.
Her dad got muscle cramps, I dud some research and then mentioned to them to take co enzyme q10 400 mg a day. It fixed his problem. Did nothing for her.
God that was likely 20 years ago.

Well I've been on the Cq10 long before I started the statins.. So I don't think its doign much for my sides from the statin, assuming the statin is causing my problems.

I had to shave last night.. I couldn't really grip/hold the razor due to forearm cramps/knots. It's still really bad this morning.

Today will be the first day I stop the statins..

Did you try the mixture we were looking at on that magnesium post?
Go to doc, get full blood panel, you will never know and none of us on here know either. Get full panel and go from there, electrolytes et al.
