starting prescription DHEA today

Couple things..

I pay out of pocket for my script of DHEA.. its not covered and I have a decent plan. cost about 30$ a month.

#2- yes DHEA has a very short half life.. Before taking DHEA I had levels around 5 or 6. On 100mg a day, my levels jumped up to like 14.8ish.

I had a few blood tests that showed my DHEA was regularly at 14ish on 100mg a day.

One of those blood tests, I did not take my DHEA the morning I had my blood test and my levels were 9ish.

So waiting 8 hours made my DHEA levels drop quite a bit.
Geesh. It sounds pretty frigging wonderful but the down is nasty. $30 a month is $400 a year and yes that's not chicken scratch unless you like tossing money on the ground. It's unfortunate that it's not covered.

I have a migraine medication I had practically had to go to court over to get covered because it's "dual-use and its primary use isn't for migraines". We're talking a medicine...the only one I've ever seen that will take even an already booming migraine and shut it right down like nothing ever happened. Most medicines require you to take migraine medicine while it's starting and if you don't, they don't really work. The cost of this little baby that is for seizures but is incredible for migraines? $160 freeking dollars for 6 pills. I have some months I go through 9 or 12 pills. :(

I looked DHEA up.

Description
DHEA is a steroid hormone with androgenic (masculinizing) properties, which is naturally synthesized by the human body. It reaches its maximum levels around the age of 25 and then decreases quite rapidly until 50 to 60 years of age. DHEA levels continue to decrease, but more slowly, until the age of 70 to 80 when they represent only 10 to 20% of what they were at age 20. Because DHEA level reduction is age-related, some think that DHEA may be in cause in several diseases associated with aging.

Further down they consider it a natural health product which I guess is why they won't cover it despite it sounding like they should. :/ I'm sorry they suck balls but like my migraine medicine, they do shit that just doesn't make sense sometimes.

I'd be concerned about this though because this is pretty crazy...

Security

So I thought I should add a very very obvious thing..

My prescription for DHEA ran out and I took awhile to get in to get a new script.

I was off the 100mg DHEA for about 5 or 6 days before getting the new script.

I can sincerly say my "happiness", calmess, patience and general emotions deffinitely took a turn for the worse over those 6 days. It was really really obvious. My temper was shorter as well.

Once I got back on the DHEA, I felt back to normal over 3-5 days.

It was quite something to see. I'd like to stop the DHEA again sometime to see if the same thing happens to me.
Hey does dhea surpress anything? Or once you stop your body will just continue making it again or ?

When you take dhea it will suppress the natural production and will restart if you stop.

This has been confirmed by my dr and my BW

There are a host of problems if you take too much of it. 25 mg is more than enough for most

What are the potential issues from taking too much?

Honestly I don’t remember what my TRT doctor said and I don’t wanna guess and put out wrong information here. I’ll ask her again when I see her in a few weeks

I've been on 100mg everyday since last fall.

I'll add my responses beside possible sides.

It should be noted, I have an amazing doctor who really tries to stay on top of the most current info with hormones.. I know he's taking DHEA as well.

Everything I have read makes it appear pretty innocuous. I think I already posted some of the studies or articles I have.

My wife has taken it pretty much for 2 decades. No issues unless she takes too high of a dose. Then she get acne.

Did a on phone prescriptuion refill today.

Was with a different doctor.. thought he'd just ask what prescriptions I needed to refill, but no.. went through all my diet/exercise etc..

Then he questioned the DHEA.. Said he'd read studies that taking DHEA is fine, taking testosterone is fine, but taking both together can increase chances of certain cancers.. I threw a few questions at him to which he had no real answers.. I brought up all the studies I've read and how inconclusive they are etc.. Then I said "I'm on 75mg test.. I feel better on 100, but my estrogen gets high and my test levels get too high.. Since stsrting the DHEA a year ago I feel much much better then just the 75mg AND also better then being on 100.. ".. He just filled the script.

If you dont have bad sides from the DHEA then it's best to add to TRT.

Personally, on a normal TRT dose when I started DHEA I actually got terrible gyno. Thankfully I responded well to nolva to fix it. Converted it all over to estrogen yet was added since I was extremely low. Not touching DHEA ever again.

How much DHEA were you taking out of curiosity?

I have zero sides from 25mg. And i take time off to make sure i don’t suppress my natural production.
